Case Study: Modernizing the Payment Recovery Platform at PRGX
PRGX is a global provider of recovery audit solutions, helping enterprise clients reclaim revenue lost through payment errors & process inefficiencies. Their legacy platform — used by clients to submit, track, & manage recovery claims — was outdated, cumbersome, & heavily reliant on support intervention. I was brought in as Principal Product Designer to lead a complete UX redesign of this core product, with the goal of improving usability, reducing errors, & modernizing the experience across both B2B & internal-facing workflows.
The recovery platform had become bloated & inefficient. Users were overwhelmed by complex navigation, unclear language, & poor visual hierarchy. The claim submission process was inconsistent & error-prone, often requiring assistance from PRGX’s support staff. Claims were frequently misrouted or incomplete due to lack of validation & guidance. Internally, product & engineering teams had no scalable design system or UI patterns to build from, which created delays & inconsistencies across related tools.

To fully underst& the user experience, I conducted interviews with client-side finance teams & internal support specialists who handled escalations & training. I also reviewed a large volume of support tickets & feedback logs to identify common frustrations & repetitive issues. Task flows were mapped across roles — including auditors, claim submitters, & approvers — to pinpoint moments of friction. Key insights included difficulty navigating between stages of a claim, lack of transparency around status updates, & confusion around required metadata & documentation.
The design strategy focused on simplifying complexity without sacrificing functionality. I prioritized clarity, actionability, & scalability. This meant rethinking how information was surfaced, how steps were broken down, & how different user roles interacted with the platform. I also planned for the introduction of a scalable design language that could be extended to future PRGX tools.

Custom Survey Builder UI: drag-&-drop creation with logic controls & metadata tagging I redesigned the recovery experience with task-based navigation & role-specific dashboards that provided clear entry points & surfaced only the most relevant information. The claim submission process was rebuilt from the ground up using progressive disclosure to guide users step-by-step & minimize cognitive load. Inline validation, contextual help, & visual cues improved confidence & reduced submission errors.
Filters & metadata tagging were added to help users quickly locate & prioritize claims, while alert systems flagged missing information or delayed items. Escalation paths were restructured to improve transparency & reduce support back-&-forth. All UI components — including tables, form elements, & alerts — were created as reusable patterns with scalability in mind, forming the early foundation of a modular design system.
The redesigned experience led to measurable improvements in both user efficiency & platform performance. Support ticket volume dropped by 30% within six months of rollout, while successful claim submissions increased by 20%. Onboarding time for new clients decreased due to the improved task clarity & dashboard orientation. While working as Principal Product Designer at Tavant Technologies — a digital services provider — I led the end-to-end redesign of Stearns Bank’s customer-facing digital banking platform. The bank’s legacy system lacked mobile responsiveness, clear task flows, & modern interaction patterns. My role was to rethink the entire user experience, from account dashboards to core banking functions, & deliver a scalable, responsive UI that aligned with both user expectations & regulatory standards.
Stearns Bank was operating on an outdated digital platform that created friction for both retail & business customers. Core banking tasks like viewing transactions, managing accounts, & initiating transfers were buried under unclear navigation, poor hierarchy, & unresponsive layouts. The platform was difficult to use on mobile devices — a major concern as more customers were shifting to mobile-first behavior. Internally, the bank lacked a scalable design system & had no consistent visual language across digital products.

I began by working closely with Tavant’s product team & Stearns Bank stakeholders to understand the business goals, user needs, & technical limitations. We conducted interviews with account holders from both personal & business banking segments to identify the most common use cases & pain points. I also audited the existing platform across desktop & mobile, mapping user journeys & identifying friction in login flows, navigation, transactional workflows, & error handling. Analytics & session replay tools revealed where users were dropping off & how task completion rates varied by device.
Our design strategy centered around building a mobile-first, task-driven experience that would reduce cognitive load, surface the most important actions, & ensure ADA-compliant accessibility. I also proposed a modular component approach that would allow the bank to maintain visual consistency across future features while simplifying development. The structure needed to support both logged-in dashboard experiences & unauthenticated marketing pages within the same framework.

I delivered a full UX & UI overhaul of the Stearns Bank digital banking experience, including login/authentication, account summaries, transaction search, transfers, bill pay, account settings, & secure messaging. The new experience featured a simplified information architecture, persistent task-based navigation, & clear visual hierarchies to improve usability across customer types.
On mobile, I introduced gesture-friendly elements, progressive disclosure for content, & restructured key workflows for thumb-friendly interaction. I also defined system-wide tokens for spacing, typography, color, & motion — creating a design foundation that the bank’s internal team could continue using & scaling after launch.
All designs were documented in Figma & handed off with detailed specs, user flow diagrams, & accessibility annotations to ensure implementation accuracy.

While the platform helped patients pay medical bills online, the existing experience was complex, overwhelming, & difficult to navigate — especially for those unfamiliar with insurance terminology or digital payment tools. I was brought in as Principal Product Designer to lead a complete redesign of the patient billing flow, with the goal of increasing payment completion rates, reducing support calls, & building trust through transparency.
Patients were struggling to understand what they owed, why they owed it, & how to complete a payment. The billing interface lacked clear cost breakdowns, used inconsistent terminology, & required too many steps to complete a transaction. On mobile devices — where more patients were beginning to pay bills — the experience was slow & cluttered, leading to high abandonment rates. For providers, this meant slower payment cycles & more support requests from confused patients.

I conducted usability testing with both patients & healthcare administrative staff to observe how they navigated the payment process. These sessions revealed common pain points: unclear presentation of insurance coverage, hidden fees, & confusing layouts for multi-line items. I also reviewed call center transcripts & analytics data to identify where users dropped off or reached out for help. Insights from this research guided the redesign toward clarity, guidance, & efficiency.
The strategy focused on simplifying the billing journey through progressive disclosure, surfacing only the most relevant information at each step. I aimed to create a billing summary that clearly separated insurance coverage from patient responsibility, with plain-language explanations for billing terms. Contextual help & inline tooltips were added for terms like "deductible," "copay," & "EOB" (Explanation of Benefits). The design also prioritized mobile-first responsiveness, ensuring that the experience was as smooth on a smartphone as it was on desktop.

The billing summary card clearly displayed total amount due, due date, & payment options, with the ability to drill down into line-item details if desired. The process was reduced from multiple confusing screens to a concise, guided journey. On mobile, large touch targets, simplified forms, & sticky progress indicators improved usability. Inline validation & real-time payment confirmation further boosted user confidence.

Case Study: “You Just Made My Day” — Fostering Positive Team Culture in eBay’s Employee Portal
While at eBay, I led the design of “You Just Made My Day”, an internal employee engagement feature within the company’s portal. The tool allowed employees to send quick, personalized recognition messages to colleagues — with copies sent to the recipient’s manager — to highlight great work, collaboration, or above-&-beyond contributions. The initiative aimed to strengthen team connections, improve morale, & create a culture of appreciation across the organization.
eBay’s teams operated across multiple locations & time zones, & while collaboration was strong, much of the recognition for great work was informal or siloed within teams. Positive feedback often went unshared with managers or other stakeholders who could amplify it. The company needed a lightweight, visible, & scalable way for employees to celebrate each other’s contributions & build cross-team relationships.

I began by meeting with HR & internal communications teams to understand the company’s engagement goals & existing recognition channels. I conducted interviews with employees from various departments to learn how they currently shared appreciation & what made such gestures feel genuine. I also reviewed usage patterns from the existing portal to determine the best entry points for the feature so it would be easy to discover but not disruptive.
The strategy focused on speed, visibility, & authenticity. The feature needed to make it easy for employees to write & send a recognition message in under a minute, while ensuring the acknowledgment reached both the recipient & their manager. I also wanted to create a visually uplifting, branded experience that stood out from standard HR tools.

I designed an intuitive, one-screen interface where an employee could search for a colleague, select a recognition category, & write a short note. Visual templates included subtle animations & cheerful graphics to make the message feel celebratory. On send, the recipient received an email notification & an update in their portal profile, while their manager received a copy of the message for visibility. An archive view allowed employees to look back at recognition they’d given or received.

Following rollout, usage of the employee portal’s recognition tools increased significantly, with hundreds of “You Just Made My Day” messages sent in the first month. Employees reported that the tool made it easier to acknowledge good work in real time, & managers appreciated having a tangible record of positive feedback to reference in performance reviews. The feature was praised for being fast, fun, & meaningful — reinforcing the culture of collaboration & appreciation.
